Naxos Town or Hora, the island's port and capital, is a typical Cycladic town with a maze of narrow streets and tiny passages.

It is a lively town and makes a very good resort. Behind the waterfront an extensive, almost Medieval Old Quarter stretches up the hillside where Castle (Kastro) is.

Walking inside and around Castle is a must while the views will take your breath. The old town up on the hill is divided into two neighbourhoods, Bourgos where the the Greeks lived and Castle, residence of the Venetian-Catholic nobility.

• Portara (on Palatia islet) is a huge portal (6 meters height, 3.5 meters width) of the unfinished Temple of Apollo (530 BC by Naxos' tyrant Ligdamis).
• The Venetian Castle where fortress walls are dated back to the 13th century.
• The old market around the Venetian Castle.
• The Venetian Museum.
• The Catholic Cathedral, the Ursulines Monastery and the Catholic Episcopal Edifice inside the Castle
• The Archaeological Museum with Mycenaean pottery and Cycladic figurines.
• Panagia Pantanassa Church, once part of a Byzantine monastery and famous for its early icon of the Virgin.
• Panagia Myrtidiotissa, built on an islet in the harbour of Naxos Town. Celebrates on 29 September.
• Agios Hryssostomos. Beautiful monastery situated on a hill side with stunning view. It has been assumed that it was built in 1606.
• Theologaki Chapel. Built in a cave.
